Privacy Policy

BitMuse is a desktop music player for macOS developed by BitMuse (Serhii Maltsev) (“we”, “us”). We respect your privacy and designed BitMuse to work with minimal data collection.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Data We Do Not Collect

BitMuse does not include any analytics, telemetry, or tracking. We do not collect usage data, crash reports, device identifiers, or browsing behavior, and nothing about your music library ever leaves your Mac.

The app contacts our server in one case: to check whether a new version is available. Like any web request, that check reaches our server with your IP address, the version of the app and the version of macOS (the macOS version from BitMuse 1.4.1 onwards). Our web server keeps these request logs for 14 days. From them we count downloads and how many installations are running each version of the app and of macOS; for that count an address is kept only as a one-way hash, never in readable form. Our website also stores the email address of anyone who joins one of our email lists — see section 4.

1.2 License Activation

When you purchase a license, the transaction is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email address, and payment information. We receive your email address and license key to provide customer support. We do not have access to your full payment details.

1.3 Optional Third-Party Services

BitMuse integrates with optional third-party services that you must explicitly enable:

• Last.fm — If you connect your Last.fm account, BitMuse sends track metadata (title, artist, album, duration) to Last.fm for scrobbling. This is governed by Last.fm’s Terms of Service.
• LRCLIB — BitMuse may fetch synced lyrics from LRCLIB using track metadata. No personal data is sent.
• MusicBrainz — BitMuse may fetch album artwork using track metadata. No personal data is sent.

1.4 Web Remote

BitMuse includes an optional web remote control that runs a local HTTP server on your Mac. It is accessible only on your local network and does not transmit any data to external servers.

2. Data Storage

All your music library data, playlists, settings, and playback history are stored locally on your Mac. We have no access to this data. If you use the backup/restore feature, the backup file is saved to a location you choose on your device.

3. Website Analytics

Our website (bitmuse.app) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with the site, and only after you accept the cookie notice shown on your first visit; until then no analytics script is loaded. Google Analytics collects anonymous usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and referral source using cookies. This data helps us improve the website and does not identify you personally. We do not use advertising pixels.

You can decline analytics in the cookie notice, or opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Most browsers also allow you to block cookies through their settings.

The BitMuse desktop application itself does not use cookies or any tracking technologies.

4. Email Updates

The website lets you leave your email address for two optional lists, and you choose each one yourself; nothing is pre-selected:

• BitMuse news and release notes — a few emails a year.
• A NAS / Linux edition — one email, if a headless edition of BitMuse for NAS and Linux ships.

For each list you join we store your email address, the list, which version of the sign-up wording you agreed to, and the date. We do not store your IP address or any browser details with it. The list is kept on our own server; it is not sold or shared with third parties, and no mailing service processes it at present. If we start using one, it will be named here before it receives any address.

Every email we send will include an unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe by replying to any of them, or ask us to delete your address at any time through the contact page.

News sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe. NAS / Linux sign-ups are deleted once that one email has been sent, or if the edition is dropped.

5. Children’s Privacy

BitMuse does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
